New York, NY September 11, 2023 – BET names rapper and songwriter Maiya The Don as its BET Amplified artist for October. BET Amplified is BET Music's stamp of approval for the next big thing in music. From her humble beginnings amassing a following with her beauty content on TikTok, this rising rap star took the music world by storm when she shifted to making music in 2022.

Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, the “Telfy” singer found breakout success when she released the aforementioned song and garnered approximately two million views on YouTube. Since then, she’s secured a spot joining Flo Milli’s ‘Thanks for Coming Here, Ho’ Fall 2023 tour and most recently had an electrifying performance as part of the “BET Hip Hop Awards” 2023 cypher with some of hip hop’s hottest acts including Cassidy, Lola Brooke, Lady London, Scar Lip, and Lanell Grant, to name a few.

On October 6, Maiya released her debut mixtape Hot Commodity; the mixtape includes the infectious new singles “Body” featuring the Queen of Pop herself, Mariah Carey’s hit song “Touch My Body,” and the Ty Dolla $ign-assisted “In Your Hands.”  Listen to the mixtape Hot Commodity in full, here.

Maiya The Don can now also add BET Amplified Artist to her list of accolades. As a BET Amplified artist, Maiya The Don will receive BET Music’s support across multiple BET campaigns and platforms, including BET, BET Her, BET Jams, BET Soul, BET.com, BET Socials, and BET’s Official YouTube Page.

Previous BET Amplified artists include Ambré, Armani White, Asake, Babyface Ray, Big Boss Vette, Coco Jones, DIXSON, Doechii, Glorilla, HDBeenDop, Ice Spice, Kalan.FrFr, Kaliii, Lakeyah, Larry June, Lehla Samia, Lola Brooke, Muni Long, Nardo Wick, Tone Stith, and more!

About Maiya The Don

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY’s East New York area, Maiya The Don is known for her big personality and braggy punchlines, with a mission to make everyone feel as confident as she is. Maiya’s story is unconventional, bred from a love of the rap greats who came before her, yet mixed with the sensibilities of today and an intuitiveness that only comes from unbridled self-awareness.

Inspired by NYC-based black-owned brand Telfar, Maiya translated her love for fashion and Telfar bags into the signature track “Telfy,” co-signed by New York’s own Cardi B. Back in October 2022, Maiya went on to release the video for her buzzing hit “Telfy” – garnering over 2 million views in just a few months, editorial support across Hypebae, Billboard, Pitchfork and BET, along with over 6 million streams on Spotify alone. It even led to Maiya nabbing the premier feature spot on Flo Milli’s remix for her hit single “Conceited,'' alongside Lola Brooke; and being featured in Topicals campaign ad.

The 21-year-old has admired, been inspired by and studied the impact hip hop has had on fashion and the artists that have been known to propel it forward. This includes the likes of Jay Z, Drake, Nicki Minaj & Cardi B. She recently teamed up with Shawny Binladen for her current single “Luv U Better.” Sampling Mary J. Blige’s 90s hit track, “I Can Love You” featuring Lil’ Kim, “Luv U Better.” Earlier this year, Maiya dropped the video for her infectious single “Dusties,” which was directed by Mikey & Davey. She’s gearing up to drop a new single "Body" sampling the megahit track by Mariah Carey.

On her journey to stardom, she plans on being not only one of the top females in rap, but one of the greatest rappers in the game. And today’s hitmakers are taking notice; including Latto, who even shouted Maiya’s name out as one of THE rappers to watch, during Latto’s BET Awards acceptance speech. NY Times Magazine recently highlighted her as among the group of women today in hip-hop taking control and bringing vitality back to the genre, in their summer 2023 piece, ‘The Future of Rap is Female.’ She is on tour with Flo Milli and her mixtape Hot Commodity is out now.
