CBS NEWS AND TOKYO BROADCASTING SYSTEM <br />SIGN MULTI-YEAR DEAL FOR NEWS SERVICES <br />
CBS News and TBS to Continue Sharing News Coverage
July 28, 2005, New York, NY – CBS News and Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) have concluded a new multi-year agreement that extends the longstanding newsgathering relationship between the two companies, it was announced today jointly by Armando Nunez, President, CBS Paramount International Television; Andrew Heyward, President, CBS News; and Yukio Sunahara, Chairman, Tokyo Broadcasting System. The deal was signed today at CBS’s corporate headquarters in New York.
The long-term agreement gives TBS News exclusive access to CBS News programs and news coverage and provides for worldwide cooperation between the two news organizations. CBS News also receives access to TBS’s coverage under the extension. TBS receives more than 300 stories each day from CBS NEWSPATH, the world's largest satellite newsgathering system, and have access to the NEWSPATH Live News Center in New York.
The agreement between CBS News and Tokyo Broadcasting System extends one of the longest relationships between international broadcast news organizations. TBS and CBS News host one another’s bureaus in Tokyo and New York and jointly cover major stories. The two organizations are leaders in satellite newsgathering in their countries and are both members of ENEX, the European News Exchange.
According to Yukio Sunahara, Chairman of Tokyo Broadcasting System,Inc., “This cooperative relationship with CBS News is extremely significant in the globalization of broadcasting and media. This new agreement just extended originates a stronger partnership. We look forward to further strengthening it in an even wider field.”
Added Shigenori Kanehira, President, TBS News, “The long-running association between TBS and CBS News is completely unique. TBS News is working hard to be the strongest source of news in Japan. I believe our relationship with CBS News is a key element in reaching our goal.”
