KCBS-TV LOS ANGELES’ ANCHOR PAUL MAGERS TO SIT IN AS GUEST CO-HOST ON “THE TALK,” ON FRIDAY, JUNE 29

Los Angeles – KCBS-TV Los Angeles news anchor Paul Magers will be a guest co-host on THE TALK, Friday, June 29 (2:00-3:00 PM, ET; 1:00-2:00 PM, PT/CT), joining co-hosts Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood and Aisha Tyler at the table. Throughout the week, news anchors and weathercasters from five CBS-owned stations around the country will be in Los Angeles to serve as guest co-hosts, filling in for Julie Chen, who returns Monday, July 9.

One of the most highly regarded news anchors in the country, Magers joined the CBS 2 news team in January 2004. Currently, Magers and Pat Harvey (who has served as a guest co-host on THE TALK on numerous occasions) anchor the station’s weekday 5PM and 11PM newscasts. During the past two years with Magers and Harvey behind the anchor desk, CBS 2’s 11:00 PM news viewership has grown by 58%.
Since joining CBS 2, Magers and his colleagues have received a number of Best Newscast honors from their industry peers, including an unprecedented four straight Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards (2005-2008), the Mark Twain Award from the Associated Press Television & Radio Association, the Golden Mike Award from the Radio & Television News Association of Southern California and the Los Angeles Press Club.
Magers returned to Southern California and joined CBS 2 after serving as an anchor for KARE-TV in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota since 1983. In addition to anchoring the 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00 PM newscasts at KARE, he hosted numerous specials, moderated political debates and participated in a wide variety of community events, including several fundraisers for Special Olympics.
Magers was born in Santa Maria, Calif., and spent the majority of his childhood in Ellensburg, Wash. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington and his juris doctorate degree from the Hamline University School of Law.
Magers began his broadcasting career at KSTP-TV in St. Paul, then moved in 1979 to KATU-TV in Portland, where he began working as an on-air reporter. In 1981, he moved down the West Coast to KGTV-TV in San Diego where he spent two years as a reporter and anchor before returning to the Twin Cities and beginning his 20-year career with KARE.
CBS’s Daytime Emmy Award-nominated talk show THE TALK features a panel of well-known news and entertainment personalities discussing current events, pop culture, contemporary issues, family, celebrity and the trending topics of the day. The daily one-hour series is co-hosted by Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood and Aisha Tyler. The hosts swap stories, challenge each other on issues and engage the studio audience and viewers at home about events in the headlines and their own homes. Show segments include guest interviews with entertainers and newsmakers, musical performances, appearances from extraordinary people with stories that engage and inform as well as how-to demos, real-world advice and tips from the leading experts in fitness, diet, health, home, relationships, finance and fashion. The show was developed by Gilbert, who also serves as executive producer along with executive producer John Redmann.
