Tyla Abercrumbie boasts an extensive career onscreen and on the stage.
Best known for playing Nina Williams over six seasons on Showtime’s “The Chi,” her other notable television credits include recurring roles on “Low Winter Sun,” “The Mob Doctor” and “The Chicago Code,” as well as appearances in “Justified,” “Empire,” “Shameless,” “The Big Leap,” “Somebody Somewhere,” “Utopia,” “Chicago PD/MED,” “Proven Innocent,” “Shrink,” “Easy,” “Crisis” and “Detroit 187,” among others.
In the realm of theater, Abercrumbie has performed on many esteemed stages, including the Geffen Playhouse, Huntington Theatre, Goodman Theatre, Court Theatre, Northlight Theatre, Victory Gardens Theater and Chicago Shakespeare Theater.
Abercrumbie is also an accomplished playwright, with several award-winning works to her name. Among her celebrated plays are “Relentless,” “Whiskey Sour,” “Who’s Afraid of Deepak Chopra,” “Asylum (aka Life),” “Only Women Bleed,” “Affair of Ambiguity,” “Normality” and “The Straw.”
