DR. PHIL BITES DOG (THE BOUNTY HUNTER)
Hollywood, CA - November 8, 2007 -- Bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman eluded the producers of DR. PHIL who offered the famous bounty hunter an opportunity to speak with Dr. Phil McGraw, America's Doctor, and leaders of the African American community about his part in the latest "N-word" controversy. These included Linda Shinnery, the mother of the maligned young woman, Monique; Bishop T.D. Jakes; activist Rev. Al Sharpton; rap artist Master P; attorney Areva Martin and former NAACP youth and college division director and international BET correspondent, Jeff Johnson.
It was recently revealed that Chapman made derogatory racial comments in what he thought was a private conversation with his son, Tucker, about the boy's African American girlfriend. Unbeknownst to Chapman, his son was taping the conversation and then reportedly sold it to the "National Enquirer." The DR. PHIL producers offered "Dog" several bones, everything from a personal appearance to a call-in telephone interview, but he declined the invitation, as did his sons. "Although he had said he wanted the dialogue to make amends, he sure ducked the best chance he could ever hope for if he was sincere," said Dr. Phil.
Despite Chapman's absence, Dr. Phil decided to proceed with the show to discuss the effect of using the "N-word" and the excuses for using it. The episode airs Friday, November 9 (check local listings for time and channel).# # #
