EX-HUSBAND OF THE VIEW CO-HOST SHERRI SHEPHERD SAYS HE IS TIRED OF BEING THE PUNCHLINE OF HER JOKES
WHILE SHE SAYS SHE PORTRAYS HIM IN A "GOOD LIGHT ON MY SHOW"
To be broadcast Friday, February 12, 2010
New York, NY - Feb. 12, 2010 - INSIDE EDITION speaks exclusively with Jeff Tarpley, the ex-husband of ‘The View's' Sherri Shepherd, who says he's tired of being the punchline of her jokes on television.
Tarpley tells INSIDE EDITION he is pleading for Shepherd to stop using their divorce as comic material.
Tarpley: "I'm hoping, and I'm stating it publicly, that I would like her to stop and move on."
It has been five years since Shepherd and Tarpley split. They had a rocky marriage - Tarpley had a child with another woman while he was still married to Shepherd.
Tarpley: "I'm not claiming to be the best husband...I made mistakes. We both did. But am I going to go back six years and talk about those things for the next five years? Would it be funny? I want to move forward."
Tarpley also says that he understands that his ex-wife is a comedienne, but that her jokes are hurtful to their son.
Tarpley: "I know that's what she does. But this is detrimental to me and my feelings, my son and my son's future...She presents it in a humorous manner, but it's never in a humorous context. I've never laughed about it. My family doesn't laugh at it."
INSIDE EDITION caught up with Shepherd at an event in New York City. She insists that she does not portray him poorly on ‘The View.'
Shepherd: "You know, god bless my husband...People have to look at the show. We portray him in a very, very good light on my show and I mean there're some facts that are just factual. But I say, ‘Hey, let's focus on John Edwards with his mistress and Eliot Spitzer with his mistress, we'll stay off my husband, or ex - I should say'... I'm tired of talking about him."
INSIDE EDITION is produced daily at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City and produced and distributed by CBS Television Distribution, a unit of CBS Corp.
