New York, NY — January 12, 2016 – INSIDE EDITION’s Jim Moret exclusively speaks with OJ Simpson’s sister, Shirley Baker, who is speaking publicly for the first time. She tells INSIDE EDITION that she still believes Simpson is innocent, stating, “I know he did not kill Nicole and Ron.”
She says she was with Simpson after the murders when their mother asked him point blank if he did it, a scene that was depicted in the hit miniseries, “The People VS. OJ Simpson.” Baker tells INSIDE EDITION, “She said, ‘Tell me, did you do this?’ He looked her in the eye and he said, ‘Mommy, no, I did not do it.’ He said, ‘I did not do it.’ He said, ‘I love Nicole.’”
Baker also recalls the infamous slow speed Bronco chase when Simpson failed to turn himself in to police, and says she was worried he might take his life. “My husband and I slept in the room with OJ. He was just out of it. He just kept saying, ‘Nicole, Nicole, Nicole.’”
During Simpson’s murder trial, Baker was in court every day, and 21 years later she is still thrilled watching the moment he is found not guilty. She was with her brother when the entire family celebrated the day of his acquittal.
13 years later, Simpson was sentenced to 33 years for armed robbery and kidnapping in an unrelated case in Las Vegas. Of that sentencing, she tells INSIDE EDITION, “I knew in my heart it was payback for Nicole.”
Baker talks to her younger brother every week by phone and visits him four times a year. Recently, she made the trip with his best friend, Tom Scotto.
Baker describes Simpson’s job behind bars saying, “He is in charge of the gym. He is the boss. He makes sure all of the equipment is clean.”
Simpson knew his sister would be speaking with INSIDE EDITION and had this message, “He wants the public to remember who he was,” she says.
She adds that she will always believe in his innocence. “My brother would not slit his wife’s throat, leave her outside and with the door open with his two children upstairs in the bedroom. I will go to my death bed for that,” she states.
