A DR. PHIL EXCLUSIVE: THE SINEAD O’CONNOR INTERVIEW

KICKS OFF SEASON 16 OF TV’S #1 DAYTIME TALK SHOW

FOLLOWING HER PUBLIC BREAKDOWN, THE MUSIC STAR SPEAKS FOR THE FIRST TIME
ABOUT HER BATTLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS

(Hollywood, CA – September 5, 2017) -- Television’s #1-rated daytime talk show, DR. PHIL, returns for its 16th hit season with an exclusive interview with music star Sinead O’Connor. Earlier this month, from a New Jersey motel room, the singer posted an emotional video message on-line where she alluded to suicidal thoughts and discussed her battle with mental illness. In a career surrounded by accolades and cursed with controversy, the Irish singer shot to fame in 1990 when her single, “Nothing Compares To U,” became a worldwide #1 hit. The all-new DR. PHIL episode airs Tuesday, September 12th (check local listings).

I’m so grateful and very happy, very excited to be getting some proper help,” O’Connor tells Dr. Phil in the interview.  Since its inception in 2002, the show has provided over $30 million in aftercare services for its guests, including access to its Advisory Board of 17 of the most accomplished and respected medical professionals in the country.

Selected quotes from the episode:

Every day of our lives, she ran a torture chamber. She was a person who would delight and smile in torturing you.” – O’Connor describing alleged abuse by her mother.

The fact that there’s such stigma about mental illness means that the illness doesn’t get talked about.”  – O’Connor

For you to have the courage to candidly and openly talk about this gives others the courage to come forward and seek the help they need.” – Dr. Phil to O’Connor

I have been thinking about it for a year, actually. I thought about it for a year before I did it.” – O’Connor on her recent on-line video post pleading for help.

DR. PHIL is produced by Peteski Productions in association with CBS Television Distribution, which also distributes the show. Carla Pennington and Dr. Phillip C. McGraw are the executive producers.
