CBS TELEVISION STATIONS ANNOUNCE INITIAL PLANS FOR OPERATING WLNY-TV

STATION WILL ADD THREE HOURS OF DAILY NEWSCASTS

VETERAN NEW YORK EXECUTIVE BETTY ELLEN BERLAMINO

NAMED VICE PRESIDENT AND STATION MANAGER

New York, April 2, 2012 – CBS Television Stations, a division of CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS.A and CBS), today announced the closing of its acquisition of independent New York station WLNY-TV (Channels 10/55) and initial plans for operating the station, highlighted by the addition of three hours of live local newscasts each weekday, including the tri-state area’s first one-hour 9:00 PM news program.

The pairing of WLNY (whose call letters stand for We Love New York) with WCBS-TV (CBS 2), the Flagship of the CBS Television Network, gives CBS a duopoly in the nation’s largest media market.

Peter Dunn, President, CBS Television Stations, announced that veteran New York local television executive Betty Ellen Berlamino has been named Vice President and Station Manager of WLNY.  Berlamino assumes her new role after having served as Senior Vice President and Director of Sales, CBS Television Stations, since June 2011. Prior to joining CBS, Berlamino spent 17 years with WPIX-TV, the New York affiliate of The CW, including nearly 10 years as the station’s President and General Manager.

WLNY will launch weekday 7:00-9:00 AM and 9:00-10:00 PM local news programs early this summer.   The 9:00 PM newscast will feature CBS 2 anchors Chris Wragge and Dana Tyler, weathercaster Lonnie Quinn and sports anchor Otis Livingston as well as WLNY’s Richard Rose, who will report nightly from the CBS 2-WLNY news bureau on Long Island.   The on-air team for the station’s morning show will be announced at a later date.

In addition to his role on the 9:00 PM newscasts, Rose will host a weekly Sunday morning public affairs show which will begin airing in a few weeks.

Effective immediately, WLNY programming will be broadcast in high-definition.

“We are excited to welcome WLNY to the CBS Television Stations family and very pleased to place day-to-day responsibility for managing the station in the hands of Betty Ellen, who is one of the most experienced and respected local television executives in the New York market,” Dunn said.  “We are committed to elevating WLNY’s stature in the tri-state area by investing in additional people and resources for the station and look forward to having Betty Ellen play a leading role in making sure that we meet and exceed our goals.”

“WLNY is a great addition to our CBS Local Media portfolio in New York,” said Anton Guitano, Chief Operating Officer, CBS Local Media. “As we have seen in the nine other markets where we have duopolies, the combined strengths of CBS 2 and WLNY will give us more resources and, ultimately, will make both stations even stronger than they are today.  We look forward to utilizing the promotional platforms provided by our CBS RADIO stations and CBS Local Digital Media and continuing to work with our partners at CBS Outdoor and CBS Television Distribution, which already provides many of CBS 2 and WLNY’s most popular shows, to support the growth of both stations.”

“I am honored to have the opportunity to manage WLNY,” Berlamino said.  “I look forward to working closely with Peter, Anton and everyone at WLNY and CBS 2 to ensure that we build on WLNY’s legacy and give everyone across the market a lot of compelling reasons to watch.  We are excited to convert the station to HD and look forward to adding three hours of local news to the station’s lineup.”

WLNY is widely distributed by cable, satellite and other subscription television service providers in the New York-New Jersey-Connecticut tri-state area.  The station appears as either Channel 10 or Channel 55 on most channel lineups and Channel 55 as an over-the-air service.

With the creation of the WCBS-WLNY duopoly, CBS now has duopolies in 10 markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas, San Francisco, Boston, Detroit, Miami, Sacramento and Pittsburgh.  The CBS Television Stations group includes 29 stations, including 16 that are part of the CBS Television Network, eight affiliates of The CW Network, three independent stations and two MyNetworkTV affiliates.
