48 HOURS: “The Killing of Officer Green” was Saturday’s #1 non-sports primetime broadcast with viewers, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Saturday, Dec. 7. The broadcast delivered 3.46 million viewers and a 0.7/03 with adults 25-54.
Saturday’s broadcast featured Erin Moriarty and 48 HOURS’ investigation into the February 2015 murder of Exeter, Calif., police officer Daniel Green, who was shot four times and left for dead in his home. At first, his ex-wife, Erika Sandoval, denied having anything to do with his death. Then she changed her story.
48 HOURS took viewers inside a twisted – friends say toxic – relationship between an officer and his ex-wife and a murder that rocked a California city, leaving behind the family of the beloved policeman struggling with life without him. Green’s family says the officer was a victim of domestic abuse and prosecutors agreed. Erika Sandoval’s defense attorney, Dan Chambers, said she gave as good as she got.
The broadcast featured the first network television interviews with Green’s identical twin brother, Matt Green, and his sister, Misty Gray, who pieced together their brother’s life with Sandoval, including their marriage and divorce.
Sandoval was arrested and charged with her ex-husband’s murder just one week after he posted an image on Instagram with his new, younger girlfriend.
48 HOURS: “The Killing of Officer Green” is produced by Paul LaRosa. Greg Fisher is the development producer, Kat Teurfs is the field producer. Marcus Balsam and Grayce Arlotta-Berner are the editors. Peter Schweitzer is the senior producer. Nancy Kramer is the executive story editor. Judy Tygard is the executive producer.
