ONLY ON “CBS MORNINGS”: SISTER OF SLAIN FEDERAL OFFICER PAT UNDERWOOD EXPLAINS WHY SHE IS SUING FACEBOOK FOR HIS DEATH

CBS MORNINGS co-host Tony Dokoupil sat down with Angela Underwood Jacobs, a California woman who earlier this month filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the parent company of Facebook over the 2020 killing of her brother Pat Underwood, a federal officer gunned down allegedly by anti-government extremists. The two suspects allegedly met and organized on Facebook, according to the complaint. In her first national television interview since filing the lawsuit, Jacobs explains why she blames the social media company for the killing of her brother. “They had the information that could have stopped all of this,” she said. “And they sat on it.” Her lawyer, Ted Leopold, also laid out his argument for why he believes Facebook should no longer be protected by Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act – a powerful law that has long shielded internet platforms from liability over content posted by users. In a statement, Facebook called the lawsuit “without legal basis” and says it’s “banned more than 1,000 militarized social movements from” its platform.
