CBS NEWS AND STATIONS LAUNCH CBSN SACRAMENTO

CBSN Sacramento Marks Newest Expansion of Major Market Local News Streaming Services from ViacomCBS

Features Local News Content Produced by KOVR-TV and KMAX-TV

SACRAMENTO – June 16, 2021 – CBS News and Stations today announced the launch of CBSN Sacramento, the 11th of ViacomCBS’ 13 local direct-to-consumer streaming news services in major markets across the country. CBSN Sacramento features anchored programming and coverage of live breaking news events in the region produced by KOVR-TV (CBS 13) and KMAX-TV (CW 31).

Today’s launch of CBSN Sacramento represents the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the history of our stations,” said Justin Draper, Vice President and General Manager of KOVR and KMAX-TV. “We are thrilled to have this opportunity to build on our position in the Sacramento market as the producer of the most hours of local news by dramatically expanding distribution with the launch of our local news streaming service. We recognize there is an audience for news from California’s state capital that extends far beyond the reach of our broadcast signal. We look forward to providing our premium local news content to this wider audience whenever and however they want to watch.”

CBS (now ViacomCBS) became the first major media company to launch a local OTT news service when CBSN New York debuted in December 2018. Since then, the company has launched CBSN Local services in Los Angeles, Boston, San Francisco Bay Area, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Denver, Pittsburgh, Chicago and Dallas-Fort Worth. Following today’s debut of CBSN Sacramento, CBS News and Stations will soon be launching CBSN Local services in the two remaining markets where the company has a local television news organization: Baltimore and Miami.

CBSN Sacramento is available through CBSN, on CBSNews.com and on the CBS News apps for mobile and connected TV devices. In addition, the service is available through CBSSacramento.com and the CBS Local mobile app.

CBSN Sacramento and the portfolio of CBSN Local services build on the success of CBSN, the pioneering 24/7 streaming news service from CBS News that delivers live national and global news coverage and in-depth reporting from CBS News’ team of trusted journalists. Launched in November 2014, the platform continues to drive strong and sustained viewership growth, with the fourth quarter of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021 now ranking as the #1 and #2 quarters of all time for CBSN streams, respectively.

CBSN Local services are ad-supported. They, along with CBS’ other streaming services –CBSN, CBS Sports HQ and ET Live – are also available on Paramount+ and Pluto TV.
