THE “CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY” IS THE ONLY NETWORK EVENING NEWS BROADCAST TO POST YEAR-TO-YEAR VIEWER GAINS FOR THE WEEK ENDING NOV. 20
The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is the only network evening news broadcast to post year-to-year viewer gains (+5%, 7.99m from 7.62m), according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending Nov. 20.
The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY added +370,000 viewers compared to last year and posted its best viewer delivery since the week ending Feb. 27, 2015.
The CBS broadcast closed the viewership gap with NBC by more than half a million viewers (550,000) and with ABC by 460,000 viewers, compared to last year.
Season-to-date, the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY remains the only network evening news broadcast up in viewers (+6%, 7.24m from 6.84m) compared to last season, according to Nielsen most current ratings. The CBS broadcast also maintained its rating in adults 25-54 (1.4/06) – the demographic most important to those who advertise in news – compared to last season.
On last week’s broadcasts, Scott Pelley anchored from Paris and provided original reporting on the terrorist attacks that rocked the city as well as the subsequent government investigation, with a team of correspondents contributing from Paris and around the globe. Elizabeth Palmer covered the Mali hotel attack; Charlie D’Agata was with Kurdish troops in Iraq as they hunted for ISIS sleeper cells; David Begnaud reported on severe storms in the Northwest; and Dean Reynolds was in Minneapolis as protests continued over the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man by a police officer.
