A slightly nervous Clarissa Ward keeps her distance from this male lion and his dear friend, Kevin Richardson. Richardson shares a special bond with this lion and 27 others he keeps in a sanctuary, almost all of which were raised in captivity in an animal park where he once worked. He and friends bought the lions to save them from a cruel fate. Thousands of tourists, Americans among them, pay to pet young lions in South African animal parks each year. What they don't know is the demand they create for the cuddly, cute animals often leads to their cruel deaths later on in "canned hunts," where they are usually sent after they become too mature to be around humans. Ward's report will be broadcast on 60 MINUTES on Sunday, Nov. 30 (7:30-8:30 PM, ET/7:00-8:00PM, PT) on the CBS Television Network. Photo: CBS
