The Bro Code The Book of Rules Passed Down to Barney Stinson Popular Character on the Hit CBS Television Comedy, How I Met Your Mother To Publish this Fall from Fireside Imprint of Simon & Schuster
(New York, New York, July 30, 2008) The Bro Code provides men with all the rules they need to know in order to become a "bro" and behave properly among other bros. Based on an episode of the CBS hit comedy How I Met Your Mother, "The Code", according to the show, dates back to the American Revolution. It was handed down from generation to generation by the family (male lineage, obviously) of popular character and ultimate "bro" Barney Stinson played by Neil Patrick Harris on the show. Editor Meghan Stevenson acquired world rights to the never-before-published book from Debbie Olshan at Twentieth Century Fox. The Bro Code by Barney Stinson with Matt Kuhn will be published in October 2008 by Fireside, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. The book will be written in the voice of Barney by show writer Kuhn, represented by Barry Kotler at the Gersh Agency.
"For more than 200 years men have lived by a set of rules handed down from generation to generation governing the way they behave with each other and members of the opposite sex," commented Mark Gompertz, Executive Vice President and Publisher Touchstone Fireside and noted bro. "We are grateful to be able to publish them for the first time, making them available to a mass population."
"The Bro Code is the Bible for bros," said How I Met Your Mother Co-creator and Executive Producer Craig Thomas. "Without its timeless wisdom to guide us, mankind would descend into chaos. The Bro Code is arguably the single most important literary endeavor in the history of the written word. It also makes good bathroom reading."
The Bro Code publication coincides with the fourth season of How I Met Your Mother, which anchors the CBS Monday night comedy lineup. The DVD of Season Three, which includes the episode about "The Code", also goes on sale this fall. Click on the link to see a clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGzJ_Sptlfg
Some samples of the 150-odd "unspoken" rules of "The Code":
· Regardless of veracity, a Bro never admits familiarity with a Broadway show or musical.
· Bros before hos.
