CBS SPORTS’ 18th HOLE TOWERS OVER ALL IN GOLF DIGEST TV SURVEY

Gary McCord Named Favorite Hole Announcer Along With CBS Teammates Getting
Nods for 5 of Top 7 Hole Announcers Overall
Peter Kostis and Dottie Pepper Score Big With Fans
CBS Sports’ golf announcers and coverage were runaway favorites with viewers, according to the Golf Digest TV Survey.
Jim Nantz, three-time Emmy Award winner and five-time National Sportscaster of the Year, was named favorite host/play-by-play announcer. Nantz’ partner in the 18th hole tower, six-time major champion Nick Faldo, was named favorite analyst.
Gary McCord scored big with the fans when touted as favorite hole analyst. Rounding out five of the top seven were CBS’s Ian Baker-Finch, Frank Nobilo, Verne Lundquist and Bill Macatee, Nos. 3, 4, 5, 7, respectively.
And, CBS Sports’ Peter Kostis and 2016 CBS newcomer Dottie Pepper were named the viewers favorite on-course reporters, No. 2 and 5 overall, respectively.
Golf Digest reports the following viewer preferences for best golf coverage. CBS Sports golf coverage was recognized as the clear favorite among broadcast Networks. (GOLF CHANNEL: 38%, CBS: 29%, NBC: 11%, ESPN: 3%, TNT: 0%, NO PREFERENCE: 19%) In addition to the PGA TOUR events broadcast by CBS on the weekend, CBS Sports also produces the cable coverage for all four days of those events.
When asked if you could watch only one men’s golf event all year, the Masters Tournament, broadcast on CBS since 1956, was chosen as the overwhelming favorite.
HOW THE SURVEY WAS DONEGolf Digest partnered with Research Now, a leading global market research firm, to conduct an online survey among a nationally representative sample of U.S. adults 18 or older, as well as a sample of Golf Digest subscribers. All respondents completing the survey were frequent viewers of televised golf events (watched at least 10 televised events in the past year), with a total of 1,989 qualified respondents completing the survey. The margin of error is +/-2 percentage points based on a 95 percent confidence level.
