DANNY KANELL JOINS CBS SPORTS DIGITAL

Kanell Will Cover All Sports across Digital Platforms, Begins Sept. 9 with SEC Live on CBSSports.com

NEW YORK – Sept. 7, 2017 – CBS Sports Digital announced today that Danny Kanell will join its team covering all sports, including college and NFL football, across digital platforms, including CBSSports.com and the CBS Sports app for mobile devices and connected TVs. Beginning Sept. 9 with SEC Live coverage, he will contribute to all facets of content, including video programming, podcasts and written content.

“Danny brings a wealth of experience and insider knowledge to our team, and we’re excited to have him on board,” said Jeffrey Gerttula, Senior Vice President and General Manager, CBS Sports Digital. “His versatility as an analyst and host will bolster our coverage of football and all sports as we create more content for sports fans on any device.”

“I can’t say enough about how excited I am for this opportunity to join CBS Sports Digital,” said Kanell. “As our industry is changing by the minute, I wanted to be part of a company who is at the forefront of delivering content directly to the consumer on multiple screens. I’m proud to be a member of the CBS Sports family.”

While he is more widely known for his football career, Kanell is one of the rare athletes who have played both collegiately and professionally in multiple sports. A 1996 graduate of Florida State, Kanell played quarterback for the Seminoles for four years and was selected as the 1995 ACC Player of the Year and the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete. He was selected in the fourth round of the 1996 NFL Draft and played for the New York Giants, Atlanta Falcons and Denver Broncos.

Kanell also played baseball for the Seminoles in his freshman and sophomore years and was drafted by both the New York Yankees and the Milwaukee Brewers while still at FSU. In 2001, after several years in the NFL, Kanell returned to baseball and played in the minor leagues for the Atlantic League’s Newark Bears. He is a member of the 2008 ACC Football Championship Legends Class and the Broward County Sports Hall of Fame. Kanell was inducted into the Florida State Hall of Fame in 2012.

Kanell has built an extensive and varied broadcasting career after his playing career ended. He most recently was a college football analyst for ESPN networks and co-host of a weekday ESPN Radio program. He joined ESPN in 2010 as a college football game and studio analyst, primarily on ESPNU. He previously called the ABC Saturday afternoon college football game, in addition to ESPN’s Friday night game telecasts. He also served as an analyst for the College World Series Regional and Super Regional games on ESPNU. In 2012 Kanell was one of three hosts on ESPNU’s late-night entertainment show UNITE. Prior to joining ESPN, Kanell was an NFL and college football analyst for WQAM Miami and CBS4 Miami.
