LOS ANGELES – This morning, CBS earned 44 Academy of Television Arts & Sciences 71st Primetime Emmy Award nominations, topping last year’s count by 10.
For the third consecutive year, CBS’ THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT garnered Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Variety Talk Series, Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series. THE LATE SHOW also received a nomination for Outstanding Interactive Program, for a total of four nominations.
CBS’ THE LATE LATE SHOW with JAMES CORDEN earned Emmy Award nominations for a fourth year in a row for Outstanding Variety Talk Series and Outstanding Interactive Program, and added a nomination for Outstanding Technical Direction, Camera Work and Video Control for a Series.
Corden’s CARPOOL KARAOKE: WHEN CORDEN MET MCCARTNEY LIVE FROM LIVERPOOL earned five nominations, including Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded), Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special, Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming, and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special. Additionally, THE LATE LATE SHOW CARPOOL KARAOKE PRIMETIME SPECIAL 2019 garnered two nominations for Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork and Video Control for a Special and Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media Within an Unscripted Program. James Corden also received a nomination as Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program for THE WORLD’S BEST.
The Network’s THE AMAZING RACE scored three nominations, including Outstanding Competition Program. The hit series has been nominated in this key category for 17 straight years. Also, it garnered nominations for Outstanding Directing for a Reality Program and Outstanding Picture Editing for a Structured Reality or Competition Program. With this year’s nominations, THE AMAZING RACE brings its Emmy nomination tally up to 81, further cementing its record as the most Emmy-nominated reality competition program.
Several CBS specials scored in key categories, including Outstanding Variety Special (Live) for the THE 61st ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARDS and THE 72nd ANNUAL TONY AWARDS. Both specials garnered four total nominations. Other CBS specials recognized by the Academy include ARETHA! A GRAMMY CELEBRATION FOR THE QUEEN OF SOUL and THE KENNEDY CENTER HONORS, both with two.
Additional CBS series receiving nominations are “The Big Bang Theory” with three, including Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, SURVIVOR with two and S.W.A.T. and SEAL TEAM with one each.
CBS All Access earned a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series (Kumail Nanjiani) for THE TWILIGHT ZONE in addition to four nominations for STAR TREK: DISCOVERY in technical categories, including Outstanding Special Visual Effects, Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup, Outstanding Sound Editing and Outstanding Main Title Design.
CBS Television Studios’ received 30 nominations for THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT, THE LATE LATE SHOW with JAMES CORDEN, THE AMAZING RACE, STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, CARPOOL KARAOKE: WHEN CORDEN MET McCARTNEY LIVE FROM LIVERPOOL, THE LATE LATE SHOW CARPOOL KARAOKE PRIMETIME SPECIAL 2019, S.W.A.T., SEAL TEAM, SURVIVOR, THE TWILIGHT ZONE and “Dead to Me,” “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and “Carpool Karaoke: The Series.”
The CBS Corporation received a total of 69 Emmy nominations across multiple platforms including the CBS Television Network, CBS Television Studios, CBS All Access, SHOWTIME and Pop.
