June 2024
Rebecca Wisocky is a ghost – or, she stars as a ghost in the Network’s hit comedy GHOSTS. Wisocky plays the fabulous Hetty Woodstone, a robber baron’s wife who died in 1890 and is described as “an uptight Gilded Age spirit.” AV Club perfectly describes Wisocky’s performance, writing, “... as the Victorian-era lady of the manor Hetty Woodstone, Rebecca Wisocky continues to set the standard for all of her fellow actors, consistently delivering some of the funniest lines on the show.” Hetty is the ancestor of series lead Samantha. GHOSTS is a “frightfully funny” (Emmy) show that is also surprisingly moving. Season three’s stand-out critically acclaimed episode “Holes Are Bad” featured the unexpected backstory of how Hetty died.
Wisocky is also known for portraying fan favorite Evelyn Powell in the series “Devious Maids,” but she’s a frequent face on TV in both comedy and drama. Recently, she joined the third season of Mindy Kaling’s hit series “The Sex Lives of College Girls” in a key recurring role as Professor Dorfmann. Some other memorable appearances include recurring roles on STAR TREK: PICARD, “For All Mankind,” “True Blood,” THE MENTALIST and “American Horror Story” as well as the much-lauded series “Dopesick” about the American opioid crisis.
On the film side, she has appeared in “Pollock” opposite Ed Harris, “Hello My Name Is Doris” opposite Sally Field, in Andrew Dominik’s Marilyn Monroe feature “Blonde” and in David O. Russell’s “Amsterdam.” She voiced the role of Ebay Elayne in the animated feature “Ralph Breaks the Internet” and Dee Dumbie-Dungle in the adaptation of Roald Dahl’s “The Twits.”
Wisocky became involved in the arts at a young age at the community theatre in her hometown of York, Pa. She completed scholar programs at both Carnegie Mellon and the Pennsylvania Governor’s School, then moved to New York where she graduated with honors from NYU’s Experimental Theatre Wing. She was a founding member of Annie-B Parson’s acclaimed Big Dance Theater, a regular favorite in Jeff Weiss’ infamous late-night soap “Hot Keys,” and was awarded an OBIE for her performance as Leni Riefenstahl in Jordan Harrison’s play “Amazons and Their Men.”
Other theater credits of note include “Barbecue” by Robert O’Hara at The Geffen, “God’s Ear” by Jenny Schwartz at the Vineyard, “36 Views” by Naomi Iizuka at the Public, “The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant” by R.W. Fassbinder at Henry Miller’s Theater and many more in New York, regionally and abroad.
Wisocky currently resides in Los Angeles and New York with her husband, Tony Award nominated theatrical lighting designer Lap Chi Chu. They enjoy hiking with their three rescue dogs Carlo, Primrose and Tank. Rebecca adopted Carlo in Puerto Rico while participating in former castmate Roselyn Sanchez’s Amazing Paw Paw Race. Lap and Rebecca adopted twins Primrose and Tank at the beginning of the pandemic through the HIT Living Foundation in Los Angeles.
Wisocky’s birthday is Nov. 12. She can be followed on Instagram and Twitter @RebeccaWisocky.
