- A scene from POLAR BEAR TOWN: Every fall, approximately 10,000 tourists from around the world descend on "The Polar Bear Capital of the World," Churchill, Manitoba. This community of about 800 people on Hudson Bay in Northern Canada is home to the annual migration of more than 1,000 hungry polar bears that pass through town as they wait for the Bay ice to return. The new Smithsonian Channel docu-series POLAR BEAR TOWN documents a season in Churchill, following this extraordinary migration of human and four-legged animals as they collide in unexpected and sometimes dangerous ways. This six-episode series premieres Wednesday, November 16 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. - Photo: Courtesy of Smithsonian Channel Copyright: 2016 - Smithsonian_PolarBearTown_005-Bear-01174400

- Crater Lake from AMERICA'S NATIONAL PARKS AT 100 takes an unexpected view of the first century of our National Park System. The poster-child parks like Yosemite, Yellowstone, and Grand Canyon all have rich scenery and surprising histories. But of the more than 400 places now managed by the Park Service, many are preserved not just for their scenery, but for their importance to the American story, scientific inquiry and preservation of our national treasures. - Photo: Courtesy of Smithsonian Channel Copyright: 2016 - SmithsonianChannel_AmericasNationalParks100_CraterLake

- For over 70 years, the iconic flag-raising photograph at Iwo Jima has been one of the most reproduced images in history, inspiring books, movies and the Marine Corps War Memorial in Washington, DC. In a new one-hour Smithsonian Channel special, the United States Marine Corps will confirm the identity of a previously unknown flag raiser on Iwo Jima. Forensic evidence provided by Smithsonian Channel and production company Lucky 8 TV reveals that unsung hero U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. and Purple Heart recipient Harold Schultz was one of the flag raisers in Joe Rosenthal's famed Iwo Jima photo taken on February 23, 1945. The full forensic investigation unfolds with never-before-seen evidence in THE UNKNOWN FLAG RAISER OF IWO JIMA, premiering Sunday, July 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Smithsonian Channel. - - Photo: Courtesy of Smithsonian Channel Copyright: 2016 - SmithsonianChannel_IwoJima_20160603_0005
